Why My Service is Different
Look, I get that you're doing your research. You're not going to sign up with any old professional organiser – they've got to be the *right* one for YOU.
So I'm going to lay it out for you - here's why I'm different from the other professional organisers out there.
As somebody who has struggled with anxiety, stress and depression, I know first hand how a cluttered environment can negatively impact your wellbeing therefore you mental wellbeing will always be the top priority both throughout and in between our sessions.
Here’s photos of my current wardrobe storage and how I have organised some of my clothing categories with my wellbeing in mind!
Clothes to Hang
I always encourage my clients to fold their clothing items however there are some items that will prefer to be hung e.g. dresses, jackets, shirts etc.
I firstly order my clothing into sub-categories by their length, long on the left transitioning to short on the right. Based on this I start with Dresses, moving to Jackets, Skirts, Trousers, Jumpers and finally Shirts.
I then organise each sub-category by colour from dark to light in the following order - Black, Blue, Green, Yellow, Brown, Orange, Red, Pink, Purple, Grey, Cream, White.
Finally I sort each subcategory colour by the thickness of the fabric - heavy, thicker fabric on the left to lighter, flimsier fabric on the right.
Arranging your clothing in this order means that all your items are clearly visible (no more pushing hangers back and forth searching for that specific white shirt you love) and easy to put back where they belong (and less likely to be thrown on the floor or just shoved in any which way).
By storing the longer, darker, thicker items on the left and the shorter, lighter items on the right, you create an upward trajectory which will give you a positive, uplifting feeling each time you open your wardrobe!
I also replaced my mismatched hangers with matching wooden hangers which has really enhanced the overall appearance of my wardrobe as well as meaning I avoid the dreaded tangled hanger scenario! Win-Win!
Shoes
I personally like to have easy access to my shoes and therefore opted for a tiered shelving unit as opposed to draws or boxes. But this does mean I have to take more care on making sure my shoes are kept in good condition as they could be more easily damaged.
The shoes category follows the same principles as clothes to hang in terms of the larger, darker, thicker items on the bottom and the smaller, lighter items at the top.
As I don’t have many shoes I do however order these slightly differently. So I first order my shoes by colour from dark to light. Followed by organising each colour by category - Boots, Trainers, Heels and finally Sliders/Flip Flops.
You can also see I have some sentimental items taped to the inside of my wardrobe. I always encourage my clients to display things that are close to their heart rather than keeping them hidden away in boxes. This way you get to enjoy your most important items every single day!
Bags, Purses & Accessories
My ultimate tip for storing bags is to store them inside one another, not only is this great for space saving, but also helps to keep the shape of your bigger, less structured bags.
Inside the large canvas bag you see at the back of my wardrobe are my canvas shopping bags, backpack, clutch bag and even a beach bag.
I have also stored my scarf, belt, gloves, knitted hat, earmuffs and cap in this bag (and yes I only own one of each of these - my minimal approach isn’t for everybody and you do not have to be a minimalist to tidy up, but that’s the great thing about working with me, my tips are totally adaptable to your preferences!)
The box at the front of the wardrobe is my ‘before I leave the house’ box, this is where I keep my purse, reading glasses, sunglasses, umbrella, lint roller and care items for accessories. This has been an absolute life saver for me to know exactly where everything is before I leave the house, so I’m no longer stressed, running around searching for items in a hurry.
